Many things to discuss. More formula drama. Expenses. Always expenses. And a little bit of Momma Drama. Let's get started.
Formula drama. Baby Rae has bumps on her cheeks. We don't know what is causing these little pimple-like bumps...and surprisingly, neither does Google. She's had them for weeks. I'm not sure how many weeks, but they must have shown up since her last doc's appointment (at the end of July) or we would have asked about it. I'm thinking she's had them 4-5 weeks. That's about how long it's been since we started trying other (less expensive) brands of formula. She was tolerating them well with no fussiness, so...great! Right? Not great. We suspect a food allergy. Like maybe...Milk. WHY THE HELL DO PEOPLE DRINK COW'S MILK ANYWAY?? ISN'T THAT JUST WEIRD?
Oh sorry...was I yelling?
So we decided (right after buying the previously mentioned cans of formula, of course) that we would try Baby Rae on soy formula ($15.90). We tried it for the first time a couple days ago. She didn't seem to like the taste. So today I mixed it half-and-half with her regular formula, with the intention of fading to the soy formula. Well, today she was unusually whiny. I blame the soy! So we're giving the soy formula a break.
At this point, we're going to do the obvious (or what should have been obvious, but wasn't). We're going back to the formula Baby Rae was drinking (and doing well on) for several months. Similac Sensitive Formula in the white and orange can. We're going to do a two-week trial on the Similac to see if the bumps go away. If they don't, we'll try to control for other potential environmental allergens.
Expenses. So today I went to WalMart (ick) and bought this stuff for Baby Rae:
There's some sweet peas, oatmeal, 2 cans of Similac, some Similac formula to-go packets, and some bottles. Total = $55.49
Also, I got a coupon in the mail for $10 off of a $10 purchase at JC Penny, so I went there the other day to check out the baby items. I came across this clearance bin of summer clothes, and got Baby Rae the following clothes:
After using the $10 coupon, the total was...
wait for it...
wait for it...
$1.06! Cool!
Anyway, she's going to outgrow these before next summer so we're using them really fast now! Here she is modeling one of her new outfits:
It's her first blue jeans!
So moving on...today we got a toy at the thrift shop...$0.53.
Lastly, I got the bill for $15.00 for Baby Rae's copay for her last doctor's visit. Just paid it with online bill pay.
So grand total today: $87.98
Momma Drama: Ok, the last bit of news...Baby Rae can hold her own bottle. Look:
She doesn't need me anymore!! *sob*
Ok. End Momma Drama.

Good luck finding the cause of the red bumps.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't be too sad about her holding her own bottle. It's a great step. My son (who is 15 months) refuses to hold his bottle. He will bring it to you, and hold your hand up, but he won't hold it himself. A little independence is not a bad thing. ;)
Thanks Sarah...I really should examine things from the glass-half-full perspective more often. :)
ReplyDeleteNice clothes! Baby Rae is really good at modeling! :)
ReplyDeleteRe: milk allergy, I'm no expert but I think the reaction would be way more severe than having bumps on her cheeks. Keep us posted!
Anon - hm...you're probably right...a milk allergy would probably involve puking and stuff. Anyway, will keep you posted!
